Overview

GB3040 is an introduction to the science and art of converting data into information for managerial and policy analysis. This course focuses on the descriptive and inferential statistical concepts useful for conducting basic managerial and policy analysis. Topics include measurement scales, descriptive statistics for quantitative and qualitative data, basic probability concepts and distributions, sampling theory and sample design, sampling distributions. Point and interval estimation,, hypothesis testing, and linear models. goodness-of-fit tests, contingency table tests, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Excel statistical tools will be utilized for data analysis and presentation. Follow-on courses in DDM will build on the statistical foundations in GB3040. Prerequisites: College algebra and knowledge of Excel. Open to MBA students or by consent of instructor.
