Overview

Kinematics and kinetics of particles and rigid bodies. Rectilinear, plane curvilinear, and space curvilinear motion. Newton's laws of motion. Work, energy, impulse and momentum, and impact. Plane motion of rigid bodies. Relative motion in translating and rotating frames of reference. Gyroscopic forces and motion.

Prerequisites

  • ME2501

Learning Outcomes

  • Analyze Kinematics of Particles and Rigid Bodies -
Students will be able to analyze the kinematic motion of particles and rigid bodies, including rectilinear, curvilinear, and space motion, and apply these concepts to engineering dynamics problems.
  • Apply Newton’s Laws and Dynamics Principles -
Students will demonstrate the ability to apply Newton’s laws of motion, along with work-energy and impulse-momentum methods, to solve problems involving force, acceleration, energy, and momentum in particles and rigid bodies.
  • Evaluate Dynamics in Translating and Rotating Frames of Reference -
Students will proficiently evaluate relative motion in translating and rotating frames, including the effects of gyroscopic forces and plane motion of rigid bodies.
