Overview

This course provides DoD military officers and civilians with the communication strategies and skills to manage and lead in the dynamic DoD environment. Instruction focuses on assessing various communication models, making strategic media choices, writing effective informative documents, developing associates' communication competencies through various feedback roles, and giving lucid briefings. Prerequisites: None.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • Think critically about communication and its impact on organizational performance;

  • Diagnose communication messages using models and empirical research on effective communication, and make recommendations that draw on a careful analysis of situational and design factors;

  • Write effective bottom-line, high-impact documents for diverse audiences; and

  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and effectively present an oral briefing to a targeted audience using principles of persuasion.
