Overview

This course introduces essential data analysis skills and concepts. Students will learn to use basic programming to access and manipulate data, craft impactful visualizations, and understand foundational principles in data-driven modeling. They will leave this course with an understanding and an appreciation of the capabilities of the covered tools and techniques and be able to recognize opportunities to apply these tools and be capable of managing data-analysis projects to develop these capabilities in an organization.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply database concepts and tools to collect, clean, and manipulate data, ensuring high data quality.
  2. Define and assess data quality, identifying factors that influence it and evaluating its adequacy for analysis.
  3. Develop data visualizations that enhance managerial decision-making.
  4. Build and interpret regression-based models for predicting and estimating both quantitative and categorical outcomes.
  5. Evaluate models using validation techniques and performance metrics, ensuring meaningful predictive performance.
  6. Explain and apply key data analysis terminology (e.g., algorithm, classification, features, training vs. test datasets, hyperparameters).
  7. Recognize opportunities to manage data-analysis projects, guiding organizations in implementing data-driven strategies.
