SE1001: Mathematics For SE I - NPS Online
Overview
This course provides an introduction to selected pre- and post-calculus topics. Covered will be complex numbers, matrix algebra, and differential equations.
Prerequisites
- Enrollment in the SE
- SEA curriculum.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course, the student shall demonstrate the ability to:
- Functions
- Recognize whether or not a curve represents the graph of a function
- Evaluate: linear, quadratic, polynomial , exponential, natural log, and trigonometric functions
- Derivatives
- Understand the concept of the derivative
- Know and apply the rules for taking derivatives of the functions listed in a (2) above
- Apply the derivative rules for adding, subtracting , and multiplying by a constant
- Apply the product rule and quotient rule
- Apply the power rule
- Be able to take the second derivative
- Use the first and second derivative tests to find the max/min of a function
- Calculate and interpret first and second partial derivatives
- Integrals
- Understand the concept of the integral
- Apply the integral rules for adding, subtracting, and multiplying by a constant
- Apply integration by substitution
- Apply integration by parts
- Evaluate double integrals and be able to change the order of integration
- Use double integrals to solve applied problems
- Vector Algebra
- Perform algebraic operations on vectors : addition, subtraction, multiplication, and multiplication by a scalar
- Understand and be able to apply both the Dot Product and Cross Product
- Be able to compute Directional Derivatives and Gradients
- Be able to perform vector differentiation and compute divergence and curl
