Overview

This course introduces the concepts of engineering based on forces in equilibrium of simple structures, trusses, frames, and machines. Topics include forces and moments, particles and rigid bodies in equilibrium.

Prerequisites

  • MA1113
  • MA1114
  • (May be taken concurrently)

Learning Outcomes

  • Analyze Forces and Moments in Systems
Students will be able to analyze and resolve forces and moments in both particle and rigid body systems, ensuring understanding of equilibrium conditions in simple structures.

  • Apply Principles of Statics to Engineering Problems
Students will demonstrate the ability to apply fundamental concepts of statics—such as friction, first moments, and centroids—to solve real-world engineering problems involving structures and mechanical systems.

  • Calculate Centroids and Moments of Inertia
Students will be proficient in calculating centroids and moments of inertia for various objects and will use these concepts to assess the stability and behavior of engineering systems.
