MV4002: Simulation and Training - NPS Online
Overview
This course focuses on training issues in virtual environments (VEs). VEs have often been considered to be general purpose trainers. However, systems are often built without an understanding of how to build a trainer that can verify that it improves subsequent performance without forming bad habits or other reverse training artifacts. This course will first investigate VE training systems from a theoretical perspective, focusing on learning, memory, and cognition. From this framework, actual training systems will be studied with the focus being on an actual study of training transfer of a real training system. Prerequisites: None.
Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of MV-4002, the successful student will be able to:
- Apply basic science of learning theory to produce and evaluate military training systems
- Utilize procedures to design and develop a military training system or device
- Analyze proposed training systems to determine their practicability, utilization, and likelihood of success
- Produce a training requirements assessment to serve as the basis of development for a training system
- Construct an evaluation plan for a training system
- Express how DoD uses or plans to use live/virtual/constructive (LVC) training systems by giving examples of current or planned systems
