Overview

This short course provides a high-level introduction to the core ideas of machine learning (ML), with an orientation towards defense applications and how ML fits into the broader subject of artificial intelligence (AI). This includes an introduction to neural networks and deep learning, which drive modern generative AI applications such as ChatGPT.

Learning Outcomes

After successfully completing this short course, you will:

  1. Be able to articulate what an “ML  model/algorithm” is – specifically, identify what is common to every ML model, where they may differ, and when they may be useful.
  2. Have some useful intuition about how common modern ML models work.
  3. Be prepared with a “roadmap” for studying ML in more technical detail.
