592: Electronic Systems Engineering - NPS Online

Overview

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Distance learning degree program is tailored to customer requirements and leads to the Master of Engineering (MEng) with focus in Electrical Engineering. The Meng(EE) degree is course-based and may include a capstone project at the sponsor’s discretion.

The goal of the degree program goal is to provide practicing engineers with the academic background and education necessary to analyze signals and systems, to specify characteristics of electronic systems and to design component parts of such systems.

Degree requirements include completing a minimum of 5 graduate level Electrical & Computer (EC) courses, three of which at the advanced graduate level, and three additional elective courses in other approved engineering, computer science or math disciplines. Degree requirements must be met within a 5-year range from admission into the degree program and a 3.0 GQPR in course work is required for award of the degree.

Courses are selected by sponsors to meet their specific workforce educational needs and offering schedules are determined in consultation with program sponsors. Courses are delivered typically at a rate of one course per quarter (at a rate ranging from two to four courses per year). A typical program can be completed in three to five years.

Non-resident students enrolled in ECE Department certificate programs may also apply relevant graduate level certificates completed during the degree program toward requirements for the master's degree.

Program Specifics

The Meng(EE) degree program offers flexibility in the selection of the specific EC courses used towards meeting degree requirements, from focusing in one or two specific EC areas to a broader range of EE areas. Specific degree requirements include completing a minimum of 5 graduate level EC courses, three of which at the advanced graduate level, and three additional elective courses in approved engineering, computer science or math disciplines.

Requirements for Entry

• Acceptance by the ECE Department: Entrance to the Electrical and Computer Engineering curriculum at Naval Postgraduate School is through a three-part requirement consisting of a minimum grade point average at the undergraduate level, a sufficient mathematics background, and a sufficient background in technical undergraduate studies. Applicants with a B.S.E.E. degree usually will satisfy the last two requirements automatically.

The MEng degree program is course-based, and the degree may be awarded solely on the basis of course work. MEng programs may include a capstone project if a customer wants one.

DL Program Delivery Mode

To maintain quality, it is ECE Department policy to enroll non-resident students in courses also offered to resident students. Lectures are recorded and streaming video is made available to accommodate those DL students whose attendance at the remote site is interrupted by job-related travel.
